Parks & Connectivity Work Group

OUR GOALS:

Through the development and implementation of a new General Management Plan Re-imagine Healdsburg as a place for people, not cars! Connecting neighborhoods, services, schools & parks with bike and pedestrian friendly routes that are safe and accessible. Expanding connectivity to the Russian River including other regional transportation modalities (transit/foot/bike paths). Incorporating Climate Change & Sustainability and racial equity in all aspects of the Plan.

As the SDAT report states:

Connecting existing parks and open spaces, particularly those that are somewhat isolated or can only be reached by car, is critical for not only residents and visitors, but also for wildlife. In particular, reconnecting to the river is a high priority, even though it may take some time. Restoring the ecological structure and function of that tremendous resource and incorporating all kinds of passive and active recreational opportunities into it can only meet with success.

The Parks & Connectivity Work Group developed strategic initiatives for the following topics:

Environmental Design
Safe & Accessible Pedestrian and Bicycle StreetScape Improvements
Community Connectivity (Social Fabric)
Eight to Eighty Transportation Solutions
Russian River Watershed Connectivity and Habitat Restoration
Improve neighborhood livability
Create a pilot program of Parklets within the City. (Parklets defined as dedicated public amenity along a sidewalk or in a roadside parking space)

Semi-monthly meetings since September, 2018
In August 2019, members joined "Parks Design Team" to work with COH on Montage and Badger Park Master Planning, River Access, & Connectivity Project
Participation in City Council & Commission meetings
Hosted a community meeting on Senior Transportation in February, 2020

We continue to pursue our recommendations to the City Council for inclusion in COH 5 Year Strategic Plan:

Re-imagine Healdsburg as a place for people, not cars!
Moving Healdsburg from Bronze to Gold Level certification as a League of American Bicyclists Bicycle Friendly Community
Complete bike and pedestrian path to Windsor SMART station
Expand connectivity to the Russian River and to other regional transportation modalities (transit/foot/bike paths)
Connect neighborhoods, services, schools & parks with bike and pedestrian friendly routes that are safe and accessible
