Parks & Connectivity Work Group

OUR GOALS:

Through the development and implementation of a new General Management Plan --- Re-imagine Healdsburg as a place for people, not cars! Connecting neighborhoods, services, schools & parks with bike and pedestrian friendly routes that are safe and accessible. Expanding connectivity to the Russian River including other regional transportation modalities (transit/foot/bike paths). Incorporating Climate Change & Sustainability and racial equity in all aspects of the Plan.

Members worked closely with COH Community Services to interview and select the Design & Public Outreach firm for the Montage and Badger Park Master Planning, River Access, & Connectivity. Many members were added to the community oversight group, the Parks Design Tem. The goals of the project include the Rehabilitation of Badger Park, the design of the new Montage Park and enhancing Russian River Connectivity. Members serve on the Healdsburg Design Team for the Parks Master Plan and the Open Space Advisory Team. The P&C Workgroup also participated in the COH North Healdsburg Avenue Plan meetings (Healdsburg Ave North from Powell to north city limit).

The Parks & Connectivity Work Group developed strategic initiatives for the following topics:

Environmental Design
Safe & Accessible Pedestrian and Bicycle StreetScape Improvements
Community Connectivity (Social Fabric)
Eight to Eighty Transportation Solutions
Russian River Watershed Connectivity and Habitat Restoration
Improve neighborhood livability
Create a pilot program of Parklets within the City. (Parklets defined as dedicated public amenity along a sidewalk or in a roadside parking space)

General Plan update. Our top priority for 2021 is the revamp of the outdated General Plan, which will play a critical role in the long term viability of Healdsburg. An update to the General Plan will also be the best means to implement the long term recommendations made in the SDAT Final Report.
Climate change: It is critical that the impacts of climate change on the economy and security of the City are fully understood and addressed in adaptation plans that are required by State law to be included in the General Plan.
Excellence in government: We will continue our focus on improving the accountability and performance of city government, pushing for increased transparency and metrics. A City Council with three new members and a new City Manager presents a unique opportunity to achieve this goal.
Citizen engagement: Healdsburg 2040 will continue to promote and contribute to meaningful dialog between City government and residents. We envision a speaker’s series with independent experts on topics like climate change, the future of individual and mass transport and the economic diversity of the city. We encourage the City to adopt and leverage a civic engagement platform to encourage greater participation in governance.

We continue to pursue our recommendations to the City Council for inclusion in COH 5 Year Strategic Plan:

Re-imagine Healdsburg as a place for people, not cars!
Moving Healdsburg from Bronze to Gold Level certification as a League of American Bicyclists Bicycle Friendly Community
Complete bike and pedestrian path to Windsor SMART station
Expand connectivity to the Russian River and to other regional transportation modalities (transit/foot/bike paths)
Connect neighborhoods, services, schools & parks with bike and pedestrian friendly routes that are safe and accessible

Work Group meetings are held twice each month, on the Thursday following a regularly scheduled City Council meeting. Special meetings as needed.
